Health workers protest against dismissal decision in several cities

Several Syrian cities, most notably Salamiyah, Al-Suqaylabiyah and Damascus, witnessed a wave of protests and sit-ins by medical workers, after arbitrary dismissal decisions and forced leave that affected hundreds of health workers.

Yesterday, Saturday, the Health Directorate affiliated with the Damascus Authority dismissed 336 employees, including nurses and administrators from several specialties, who have at least twenty years of service.

In the city of Salamiyah, dozens of doctors and nurses working in the national hospital and health centers held a protest in the public square, denouncing the dismissal decisions they described as "arbitrary and irresponsible," warning of the disastrous repercussions on the reality of medical services.

In Damascus, dozens of medical cadres organized a protest in front of the Ministry of Health building affiliated with the Damascus Authority, rejecting the arbitrary dismissal decisions and forced leave that affected hundreds of workers in the health sector, including nurses and doctors from various specialties.

In a related context, the General Company for Iron and Steel Products issued a decision to suspend 500 workers from work.

The decision came within an official list of the names of the workers included in the suspension, without clarifying the real reasons behind this step, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
