Governor of Hasakah meets with Serê Kaniyê IDPs committee to discuss return mechanisms

Today, the Serê Kaniyê / Ras al-Ain / Rish Aino IDPs Committee held an official meeting with the Governor of Hasakah, Engineer Nour al-Din Ahmed, as part of continued efforts regarding the return of IDPs and to discuss practical mechanisms and arrangements related to this file.

The committee and the Governor of Hasakah held in-depth discussions on the situation of IDPs and the obstacles preventing their return. The meeting also examined the steps required to establish suitable conditions as soon as possible, with the aim of ensuring a safe, dignified, and sustainable return for original residents, as well as facilitating the return of civilians who settled in the area after 2019 to their places of origin, according to a statement issued by the committee’s media office.

The committee presented a comprehensive briefing outlining the key demands of local residents, stressing that resolving security concerns is fundamental to the success of the return process. It also highlighted the importance of addressing administrative, organizational, and legal issues related to the future management of the area and its surrounding countryside after returns take place.

In addition, the delegation emphasized the need to safeguard property rights and ensure that residents are able to reclaim their homes, properties, and agricultural lands without facing any obstacles. It further reaffirmed the right of all original inhabitants to return to their areas.

It further addressed a number of issues related to the return file, calling for direct, practical, and comprehensive solutions to ensure long-term stability in the region and prevent renewed displacement risks, thereby strengthening public confidence and encouraging return.

For his part, the Governor of Hasakah confirmed that the file of IDPs’ return is progressing and is considered a priority. He stated that work is ongoing positively and at an increasing pace, in coordination with relevant authorities in Damascus and the presidential team, aiming to ensure successful restoration of stability.

He stressed the importance of addressing challenges, particularly security-related ones, and removing obstacles that may hinder residents’ return to Serê Kaniyê, affirming that intensive efforts are being made to ensure an organized and safe return that meets the aspirations of the population and takes into account the region’s specific circumstances.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue coordination and direct communication, and to intensify joint work in the coming phase in order to complete all necessary arrangements and create suitable conditions for the return of IDPs from all areas to their areas.

They also emphasized the importance of unifying efforts among all relevant parties to contribute to social stability and strengthen security in the region.
