Gharib Hasso: There is no alternative to victory of democracy in Syria

The co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Gharib Hasso, explained that the Syrian people have come to realize the importance of the democratic project and are struggling to achieve it, believing it is the true path to the triumph of their will.

Gharib Hasso said, "The rapid and dangerous transformations that occurred after the fall of the Ba'athist regime have turned the world's attention toward Syria, amid widespread astonishment that a faction still on the terrorist lists was able to reach the gates of Damascus so easily. This has raised concerns among the international community and all cultural components at home and abroad, and confirmed to everyone that Syria is heading toward the unknown, and that a new Syria cannot be built along this path. This requires a reconsideration of the title and the project."

Gharib Hasso explained that there are sincere national efforts unified in a solid democratic project in North and East Syria. This project has attracted the attention of the international community, which views it as a successful model that can be generalized across Syria. Experience has proven that this project is the true path to safety and building a future Syria.

Hasso pointed out that the rise of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham and the formation of a "transitional government" with a single political affiliation has deepened divisions within Syria and led to a dangerous ideological conflict both at home and abroad, amid the support of some international parties for this unilateral approach, which threatens the country's future.

Hasso emphasized that Syria cannot be governed or led by a single affiliation. The only solution lies in a democratic project that recognizes all components and establishes a truly pluralistic Syria.

Gharib Hasso emphasized that the current conflict in Syria revolves around two ideas: democracy on the one hand, and tyranny on the other. Syria must be a democracy that recognizes all its peoples and components; Because the continued denial of democracy will mean continued disasters and endless internal wars. This is something the Syrian people, who resisted, fought, and overthrew the former regime, do not deserve. They are capable of establishing a democratic system worthy of their sacrifices.

He noted that the democratic project throughout history has never been separatist or fragmentation-seeking. Quite the opposite: it has been a force for the unity of the peoples and a foundation for their solidarity to achieve freedom and stability. He said, "However, the regional states hostile to the Syrian people have politicized their blood and interfered in Syrian affairs through dirty policies aimed at undermining democratic efforts and blocking by progress toward democratic transformation."

The co-chair of the Democratic Union Party explained that these forces "used Salafist takfiri groups as a tool to combat democratic values and methods, but they failed because the people of Syria are the ones calling for help from the democratic system today, as is the case in northern and eastern Syria."

Gharb Hasso noted that today, in the coast, Sweida, Homs, Hama and Idlib, voices calling for democracy are rising, indicating that the Syrians are tired of wars and tragedies, and have reached a complete conviction that there is no way out of this reality except through a democratic system that guarantees their rights and puts a final end to the conflicts and bloodshed, and that ultimately democracy must triumph in Syria.
