Wadi al-Nasara area and its villages in Homs western countryside witnessed a general strike, with shops and economic activities completely closed, in protest against a murder leaving two young men from Anaz village on Wednesday night.

Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen affiliated with the Syrian transitional government forces opened fire indiscriminately in front of the Mukhtar's office of Anaz village, killing two young men, Wissam George Mansour and Shafiq Rafiq Mansour, while several civilians, among them Pierre Hariqes, were seriously wounded.

The crime sparked widespread anger in the area on Wednesday, as the village's residents expelled the members of the General Security's checkpoint from the area and surrounded al-Husn Castle after the attackers took refuge there, demanding their surrender to justice. They also blocked the main road leading to Wadi al-Nasara area.

This strike, which has spread throughout the towns and villages of Wadi al-Nasara, a predominantly Christian area, is, according to local notables, an escalation to express their rejection of the crimes and practices targeting civilians in the region, amid a state of tension and popular mobilization.
