Future Syria Party calls for caution against inciting strife

The recent events in Hasakah Governorate, particularly in Ras al-Ayn/Sere Kaniye, have sparked widespread reactions, amidst attempts to incite tension among the governorate's communities. Activists and politicians affirm that the awareness and cohesion of the residents have contributed to mitigating the repercussions of these events and preventing them from escalating into conflict between the communities.

In this context, Saleh al-Zuba, head of the Future Syria Party's Relations Office, discussed the developments surrounding the return of displaced residents of Ras al-Ain /Sere Kaniye to their homes after nearly seven years of displacement. He noted that a number of them were subjected to abuse and violations by those who had seized their homes during their absence.

Al-Zuba’a emphasized that any abuse or aggression against returnees is completely unacceptable, and that every citizen has the right to return to their home in a dignified and safe manner, free from any violations or problems.

Al-Zuba’a criticized the performance of the security forces during the return process, stating that they should have accompanied the returning residents and ensured order and prevented any incidents, thus allowing for a more organized and secure return.

He noted that the reactions following these events were reflected in the city of Hasakah, which witnessed attacks targeting state institutions.

He stressed his rejection of any harm to public institutions, as they exist to serve all citizens and meet their needs. He also rejected any abuse or disrespect towards the Syrian flag, considering it a grave mistake.

He warned against attempts to exploit the tension to incite strife among the various groups in the governorate and called for holding accountable anyone proven to be involved in such attempts. He explained that political parties and civil society organizations are working to calm the situation and urged residents not to be swayed by inflammatory rhetoric. This will help facilitate a smooth and acceptable integration of state and administrative institutions, ensuring the representation and inclusion of all components of Hasakah city.

Al-Zuba'a called on wise individuals, stakeholders, and security forces to play a greater role in achieving transitional justice and to hold accountable anyone who attempts to tamper with the province's security or threaten its stability.

In closing, he emphasized the importance of preserving the social diversity that characterizes Hasakah province and protecting its multi-ethnic fabric from attempts at division and incitement. He stressed that safeguarding this diversity is a shared responsibility that requires prioritizing dialogue and de-escalation over escalation.
