5 children injured in landmine explosion west of Tal Tamr

Five children sustained varyin1g injuries today when a landmine exploded while they were herding sheep near the village of Tal Hamam, west of Tal Tamr.

The children were taken to Al-Khabour Hospital in Tal Tamr, where they received initial treatment. Medical staff then decided to transfer two of the children, Ibrahim Abdul Jassim, 17, whose injuries were described as critical, and Muhannad Khalaf Aliwi, 13, to hospitals in Hasakah city for further treatment.

Abdul Rahman Mahmoud Mahmoud, 14, sustained shrapnel wounds to his right leg, while Osama Hassan Saqr, 13, suffered shrapnel wounds to his left knee and abdomen. Laith Asaad Shahada, 10, sustained shrapnel wounds to his left foot.

The explosion occurred in an area where residents rely on livestock herding and agriculture. These five children's injuries add to the dangers faced by civilians due to the presence of landmines and explosive remnants of war in numerous open areas.

Residents are calling for intensified mine detection and removal operations, particularly in areas with constant movement of people and herders. They are also urging increased public awareness campaigns about the dangers of explosive devices and remnants of war to prevent similar incidents.
