The farewell ceremony for politician and co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), martyr Saleh Muslim, began a short while ago at 12 March Stadium in Qamishlo, with large crowds of residents from the Jazira region and delegations from Kobani, other Syrian regions, and a political delegation from Kurdistan attending.

Saleh Muslim passed away due to illness in a hospital in Hawler, Southern Kurdistan, on March 11, and his body entered the Jazira region yesterday, Thursday, via the Semalka border crossing.

Delegations attending the ceremony came from both southern and northern Kurdistan, along with representatives from the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), as well as political delegations—Kurdish, Arab, and Syriac—from Rojava, and representatives of Kurdish and Arab tribes, councils, and committees.

During the ceremony, a condolence letter sent by leader Abdullah Ocalan was read, stating: “We received the news of Saleh Muslim’s passing in the evening hours; he was an outstanding fighter in Syria.” The letter also noted that “he is a twin of Sirri Sureyya Önder, who played a role during the phase of peace and democratic society.”

Several speeches are expected to be delivered by the Martyrs’ Families Council, the Democratic Union Party, and the martyr’s daughter, Brewin Muslim, on behalf of the family.

After the conclusion of the ceremony in Qamishlo, his body is scheduled to be transferred to the city of Kobani to continue the funeral proceedings and burial.
