Funeral ceremony for remains of 22 martyrs from Shengal massacre

The remains, which had been exhumed from mass graves in Shengal after DNA testing was completed, arrived yesterday and will be handed over to their families for burial during the ceremony.

According to the Roj News Agency, the ceremony took place in the village of Solakh in Shengal district, marking the 11th anniversary of the Shengal massacre on August 3. 

Residents from various parts of Shengal and beyond attended, along with politicians, military officials, religious figures, a delegation from the Spiritual Council, Baba Sheikh, representatives of the Autonomous Administration of Shengal, and the Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ).

After speeches and messages were delivered, death certificates for the martyrs were given to their families. Each family then received the remains of their loved one for burial in their villages’ cemeteries.

On August 3, 2014, the Yazidi community in Shengal suffered one of the most horrific crimes against humanity, known as the 74th Ferman, in which thousands of Yazidis were killed. More than 6,000 women and children, along with numerous others, were abducted or went missing at the hands of ISIS mercenaries.
