French Foreign Ministry: Paris seeks to ensure success of agreement between Damascus ,SDF

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the agreement between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces represents the best available opportunity for both sides, stressing Paris’s role in bringing viewpoints closer together and supporting the implementation of the agreement in a way that ensures the continuation of the fight against ISIS and strengthens stability.

French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine said today that the recent agreement between the interim government and the Syrian Democratic Forces is considered the best opportunity currently available to both parties.

In remarks to a media outlet close to the interim government, the French Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that Paris is working to bridge the gap between the two sides in order to ensure the success of the agreement, noting that France maintains an equal degree of proximity to both parties. He explained that France has shared ten years of joint battles with the SDF against ISIS mercenaries.

He added that implementing the agreement will not be easy and that France will continue to convey messages between the two sides, emphasizing that the agreement was necessary to ensure the continuation of the fight against ISIS and the security of detention facilities.

He also noted that the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, views the agreement with the interim government as an opportunity to act as a statesman, not only as a military general.

In a separate context, the French Foreign Ministry spokesperson confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron is keen to visit Syria in the near future, accompanied by companies interested in investment.
