The conference, held today at the National Assembly in the French capital Paris, was initiated by MP Danielle Simonnet, and attended by political, legal, and academic figures from France, Syria, and Turkey, along with representatives of Kurdish, Arab, Alawite, and Druze communities.

Supported by the “New Popular Front” alliance and several French left-wing MPs, the event welcomed Karim Qamar, the Representative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in France, as well as members of civil society organizations and human rights activists. Discussions focused on ways to achieve comprehensive decentralized governance in Syria that ensures all communities participate in political decision-making and contribute to rebuilding state institutions.

Participants called for the adoption of transitional justice as a foundation for national reconciliation and the guarantee of equal rights for all Syrians without discrimination. They shared a common aspiration to build a democratic, secular, and pluralistic Syria.

The conference featured remarks by representatives of the Alawite and Druze communities, who stressed the importance of inclusive national partnership. Karim Qamar emphasized that the goal of the conference was to bring the voice of Syrians to European decision-making centers, highlighting the shared ambition of establishing a free, democratic, secular, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.

This conference is considered a continuation of previous French efforts, as Paris was the first to host an international conference after the fall of the Baath regime in Syria on February 12. France continues to advocate for the inclusion of Kurds and other communities in any future political solution.
