First group of displaced people departs Al-Mahmoudli Camp for Deir ez-Zor

The first group of displaced people has left Al-Mahmoudli Camp in the Tabqa Canton, heading to their original areas in Deir ez-Zor. This move is part of the efforts by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to facilitate voluntary returns, in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

As part of the AANES’ efforts to support the return of displaced people to their original areas, and in coordination with UNHCR, the first group of displaced people departed Al-Mahmoudli Camp in Tabqa today, heading to their areas in Deir ez-Zor.

The group included 10 families, transported in 10 vehicles, including trucks for carrying furniture and buses for the families, according to the camp co-chair, Siham Al-Akleh.

Siham Al-Akleh added that the camp hosts displaced people from Deir ez-Zor, Homs, Hama, and rural Aleppo. A total of 65 families have registered to return to their original areas, with registrations still ongoing in preparation for additional convoys.

She explained that some families leave individually at their own expense, while the camp currently still accommodates 1,238 families out of a total of 1,368, amounting to 7,156 displaced people, living in 1,578 tents.

She emphasized that the operation will continue to facilitate the return of more families as part of ongoing efforts to support displaced people and restore stability to their original areas.
