Fawza Youssef: Jihan Belkin played a pioneering role in revolution

The member of the Presidency of the Democratic Union Party, Fawza Youssef, spoke about the personality and work of ANHA agency's correspondent, Jihan Belkin, who was martyred along with journalist Nazim Dashtan on December 19, when a drone targeted the car they were riding in on the road between Tishrin Dam and the city of Sarrin in Southern Kobani.

Fawza Youssef referred to the crimes of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in Manbij and al-Shahba, and said: "She is hostile to the pioneering woman who works to develop her society, and who seeks to defeat the regime and the obsolete mentality."

Fawza Youssef explained that what the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries are doing in Shahba and Manbij, and the martyrdom of journalist Jihan Belkin, is proof of the Turkish state's hostility towards women. She said: "It does not want women leaders, influential women, and women capable of developing their societies, but rather attacks women in a very immoral and fascist way. It wants to intimidate women and keep them away from freedom."

Fawza Youssef continued about the martyr Jihan: "I would like to offer my condolences to the family and our people. She was truly a very active woman and a free woman. She was a revolutionary who wanted to play a role in the women's revolution through her journalistic work and to introduce the women's revolution to the women of the world. She had a great contribution to the Rojava revolution. Such women give strength to women on this land and give hope to women of the world. Therefore, the enemy wants to extinguish this hope."

Fawza Youssef concluded her speech: "In memory of the martyrs, and in the person of martyr Jihan and her comrades, we say that this fascism cannot break our will. We may pay thousands of sacrifices, but this does not prevent us from taking a step back; because we know very well that the life of slavery has ended. With this faith and will, this struggle and revolution will continue. The march of Jihan and the members of the Zenobia Women's Gathering, who were subjected to the brutality of the occupation, will continue until we win the women's revolution."
