Farzanda Munther: Campaign will intensify with greater momentum

He emphasized that this year should be a year of freedom, peace, and democracy for the Kurdish and Turkish peoples, and that the campaign will escalate across political, diplomatic, and popular levels

Launched on October 10, 2023, the international campaign marked the anniversary of the international conspiracy against leader Abdullah Ocalan on October 9, 1998. It involved organizations and figures from 74 countries worldwide.

After two years, the campaign continues with new plans aimed at broadening its political and diplomatic scope to achieve its main goals:

- Ending leader Ocalan’s isolation,

• Advancing peace efforts, and promoting a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue.

Munther condemned the international conspiracy that targeted leader Ocalan, paying tribute to the martyrs of freedom who sacrificed their lives to protect him.

He said: “The conspiracy sought to deprive the Kurdish people of freedom and imprison the ideas of the leader that call for peace and liberty. But the Kurdish people and their leader faced it with a strong will, and today he has become a global symbol of freedom and peace.”

Munther clarified that the core objective of the campaign is to secure leader Ocalan’s physical freedom and achieve a just political resolution to the Kurdish question.

He acknowledged that these goals have not yet been fully realized, as the total isolation of Öcalan continues.

However, the campaign has created a new political and social reality and opened the door to a potential new negotiation phase toward a peaceful solution.

Munther stated that the campaign will intensify its activities to reach its goals and will continue to serve the peace process.

He noted that it has received broad support from democratic movements, women’s organizations, human rights groups, and Nobel laureates.

Efforts are ongoing to expand this support within decision-making centers in Turkey, Europe, and the United Nations, to generate real political and diplomatic pressure.

Munther stressed the importance of assessing the campaign’s progress over the past two years, identifying achievements and challenges, and developing new strategies to enhance its political and public engagement.

He explained that democratic initiatives and actions can play a vital role in supporting the peace process, by escalating efforts on human rights, diplomacy, social, and cultural fronts.

He called for ending the conspiracy and its consequences, and achieving leader  Ocalan’s freedom, noting that the leader’s vision is based on permanent peace among the peoples of the Middle East, founded on equality, freedom, and democracy.

According to Munther, resolving the Kurdish issue and Turkey’s democratic transformation would end the cycle of war and conflict in the region.
