An oil tanker sustained damage after an explosion occurred near the waterline off the coast of Oman, according to a maritime monitoring center today, at a time when the region is witnessing growing tensions related to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that the ship’s crew was safe and that no injuries had been reported. It added that the tanker’s captain had reported a leakage of the vessel’s fuel into the sea as a result of the damage.

The cause of the explosion and the party responsible remain unknown. The incident comes amid ongoing security concerns surrounding maritime shipping in the region, particularly in light of tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, and their impact on navigation through one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
