Expert warns of a repeat of Sinaa prison attack with preoccupation the world with wars

With the world preoccupied with the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, fears are increasing that ISIS mercenaries will exploit this circumstance to reorganize its ranks, especially with the increasing attacks on the bases of the International Coalition against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

These fears come as two years have passed since the ISIS attack on the al-Sinaa prison in the Gweran neighborhood in al-Hasakah in North and East Syria, which led to the escape of hundreds of ISIS detainees, in the most dangerous attack that occurred in the region.

ISIS takes advantage of the world's preoccupation with wars

Mounir Adeeb, an expert on Islamic movements and international terrorism, believed that the significance of the operations carried out by ISIS in Syria, Iraq, or even Iran is linked to the international community’s preoccupation with the ongoing war in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Adeeb explained: “The war that broke out in Eastern Europe, in which the United States of America and Europe entered into a long-term confrontation with Russia in Ukraine specifically, and then the war that has been going on in the Middle East for more than 3 months, specifically in Palestine, both led to the international community’s preoccupation.” In these two wars.

Adeeb stressed that these two conflicts “affected international efforts to combat terrorism, and thus ISIS became more powerful and influential.” Adeeb believed that “the growth of ISIS in the coming period will be significant and will affect national security in the region and the entire region.”

Adeeb believed that "leaving the responsibility of protecting the prisons that hold ISIS mercenaries to the forces of northeastern Syria, which he considered limited in their weapons and intelligence services, in addition to the lack of financial support for these forces, made ISIS succeed in carrying out such an attack."

Adeeb warned against repeating such attacks again in one way or another, noting that "the real solution to this matter is for these extremists to return to where they came from and for these people to be tried in the countries from which they came."
