The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, announced today that an agreement had been reached with Israel to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

Bloomberg, which quoted Kallas as announcing the agreement, reported that the agreement between the European Union and Israel will lead to a significant increase in daily supplies to the Gaza Strip in the coming days.

The agency quoted an unnamed informed source as saying that the agreement will also allow for the reopening of several aid routes into Gaza.

The agency added that in addition to reopening humanitarian aid routes through Egypt and Jordan, crossings in the north and south of the Gaza Strip are also expected to reopen following the European-Israeli agreement.

It indicated that fuel deliveries to humanitarian facilities in the Strip may resume.

Hamas announced on Wednesday its agreement to release ten prisoners in a gesture aimed at facilitating ongoing efforts mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The Israeli war on Gaza has killed nearly 60,000 people since October 2023, according to data from the Gaza Health Ministry. Thousands of bodies are believed to still be buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings in the Strip, most of which were flattened by Israel.
