Several Syrian regions have witnessed a new wave of liquidations and revenge killings, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 civilians and the injury of another in just 24 hours. This is a warning sign of escalating sectarian violence and growing instances of political and sectarian revenge, according to what the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, these operations occurred in the cities of Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, Hama, and Idlib. Assassinations took various forms, including direct shootings by unknown gunmen or during security raids, particularly targeting members of the Alawite and Shiite sects.

In Homs, three citizens were killed and a fourth from the Alawite sect was injured in two separate shooting incidents. In Damascus, two men were assassinated, one from the Alawite sect and the other in the Yarmouk camp. A citizen was also killed in similar ways in Tartus, Hama, and Idlib. In Latakia, security forces killed three young men during controversial raids, without providing an official account.

This escalation coincides with the expiration of the deadline for the fact-finding committee tasked with investigating the massacres on the Syrian coast, which occurred between March 7 and 9. No results have yet been announced.
