Dozens killed, kidnapped in “Bandit” attack on Nigerian Market

The Nigerian police reported that dozens of people were killed in a “bandit” attack on a market in Niger State, with stalls set on fire and food supplies looted. The attack is part of a series of incidents that began last Friday.

The Nigerian police issued a statement revealing that at least 30 people were killed and others kidnapped during an armed attack on a market in Niger State.

Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said that the militants, locally known as “bandits,” stormed the Kasuwan Daji Market in the village of Demu on Saturday evening. They set fire to the stalls, looted food supplies, and kidnapped several individuals. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the abductees.

Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and opened fire randomly. These attacks are part of a series of violent incidents that began last Friday in the nearby villages of Ajuwara and Burgo.

The attack comes weeks after armed men held more than 300 students and staff at a Catholic school in the state, located in central Nigeria. Those victims were released after nearly a month in captivity.
