Internal Security Forces arrest terrorist cell in Raqqa

The Media Center of the Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria issued a statement announcing the arrest of a group of people whose goal was to destabilize security and stability and stir sedition in Raqqa.

The statement read:

“Our forces in the General Security Service succeeded in arresting a group of individuals who were found to be recruited as part of a cell aiming to undermine security and stability, today, Sunday, January 4, in the context of a plot intended to incite unrest and destabilize security and stability in the city of Raqqa.

Preliminary investigations showed that members of the group carried out several sabotage acts, including raising the flags of ‘Jabhat al-Nusra’ in the city, firing gunshots into the air, and writing inciting slogans on walls targeting our forces and service institutions, with the aim of creating chaos and spreading fear among civilians.

Investigations also revealed that the detained individuals filmed these acts and published them after editing, attaching the videos to jihadist chants taken from ISIS releases, in an attempt to give them a propaganda and inciting character and to spread terror among residents.

The preliminary investigations indicated that these acts were carried out in exchange for financial promises, as part of efforts to recruit more weak-minded individuals, with payment for each filmed and documented act, whether it was an inciting slogan, a video of gunfire, or the raising of the ‘Nusra’ flag.

The filmed confessions of the detainees will also be presented to the public to clarify the plots they were pursuing and their objectives.”
