Death toll in Syria rises to 10,955 since fall of regime

A total of 10,955 people have been killed, including 3,054 executed in the field, since December 8, 2024, amid growing insecurity and the absence of accountability for perpetrators in Syria.

Between December 8, 2024, and October 8 of this year, 10,955 people were killed as a result of violence and chaos, among them 3,054 who were executed in the field, including 463 children and 636 women, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

The SOHR reported that various patterns of violations were documented during this period, including extrajudicial killings, field executions, abductions, torture, and the random targeting of civilians, in addition to armed attacks and repeated bombings in different parts of Syria.

It explained that these figures reflect the ongoing cycle of violence and impunity, stressing the urgent need for effective mechanisms of accountability and civilian protection, as well as the establishment of institutions capable of upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all Syrians.

In its previous report, issued up to September 8, the SOHR recorded 10,672 deaths since the fall of the Baath regime, indicating a continued rise in killings and sustained violence across Syria.
