Damascus government's first comment on Jordanian military operations in Syria

The Damascus government's foreign ministry announced in a statement that "the ministers of foreign affairs, defense, and security services sent letters to their counterparts in Jordan, in which they proposed taking practical steps to control the borders."

The statement indicated that the Damascus government "cooperated with the Jordanian civil and security institutions, but those messages were ignored and we did not receive a response to them, nor did we receive any response from the Jordanian side."

The Foreign Ministry's statement pointed out that "the political, media and military escalation that we have witnessed in the past few months is not at all consistent with what was agreed upon between the joint committees from both sides regarding sincere cooperation to combat all violations, including criminal gangs for drug smuggling and trafficking."

The statement stressed that "there is no justification for such military operations inside Syrian territory, and at the same time it confirms that it is trying to contain them, out of concern not for tension or impact on the continued restoration of the fraternal relationship between the two countries."

The Foreign Ministry's statement expressed "deep regret over the air strikes directed by the Jordanian Air Force against several villages and areas inside Syrian territory, the most recent of which was the targeting of villages in the southern countryside of the Syrian Suwayda Governorate, killing a number of civilians, including children, women, and others wounded and wounded."
