Damascus authorities arrest Palestinian leader

Al-Mayadeen Network quoted a Palestinian official as saying that the Damascus authorities arrested Talal Naji, the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command, in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

A private source confirmed to Sky News Arabia today that Talal Naji, the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command, was arrested in Syria.

No comment has been made officially yet by either the Syrian government or the Popular Front on the matter.

In a similar move, the Damascus authorities had arrested a few weeks ago the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement representative Khaled Khaled and the head of the Syrian arena organizing committee Abu Ali Yasser, Palestinian sources in Damascus reported.

The sources confirmed then that the arrest of Khaled came less than 48 hours after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visited Damascus and met with the chairman of the Damascus authorities, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

The Syrian media reported that Khaled and Yasser were charged with "collaborating with Iran."
