The statement by women politicians in Kobani was read by Badia Meho, a member of the administrative body of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), in front of the party’s office, with the participation of representatives of women’s organizations.

The statement condemned the vandalism of images of women martyrs in Hasakah, stressing that martyrs are symbols of freedom and the people’s dignity, and that preserving their memory is a fundamental moral and national duty.

It noted that the martyrs represent the people’s sacred values and that no one has the right to violate those values.

“This act is a clear attempt to provoke the people and violate the martyrs’ sacred values. This attack targets not only the images of the martyrs but also the will and unity of our people,” the statement said.

It also noted that the values and gains achieved were the result of great sacrifices and resistance, stressing that such acts would not be accepted under any circumstances.

The statement called on the transitional government to act in accordance with international charters and agreements. It also urged the relevant authorities and security institutions to expedite the trial of those responsible and impose appropriate penalties.
