Call for global action against Iran's decision to execute Bakhshan Azizi

The Women Solidarity Network in West Asia (WANA) and North Africa (WWSN) has called for urgent action to halt the execution of Kurdish activist Bakhshan Azizi after the Iranian Supreme Court upheld the decision on January 8.

The statement reads: "We, members of the Women Solidarity Network in West Asia (WANA), appeal to the international community, governments, human rights organizations, and women’s rights advocates to take urgent and decisive action to halt the execution of Bakhshan Azizi. She is a courageous humanitarian worker and women’s rights activist. The Iranian Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence against her, which could be carried out at any moment without warning."

The statement continues: "Bakhshan Azizi dedicated her entire life to defending women’s rights, fighting inequality, and pursuing social justice. Her unwavering commitment to human rights was a beacon of hope for many. Executing her would not only be a horrific injustice but also an attempt to silence the voice of progress and equality in Iran."

The Women Solidarity Network in West Asia (WANA) stated: "The use of the death penalty to silence activists like Bakhshan Azizi is a blatant violation of fundamental human rights and a profound stain on humanity." It added: "It is imperative that we act immediately and rise against this irreversible injustice. We call on all advocates of justice and human rights, as well as all organizations and institutions, to join us in condemning this egregious injustice. Let us stand in solidarity with Bakhshan Azizi, her family, and her community, and demand the revocation of this death sentence. Time is of the essence, and together we must reaffirm the value of human life, demonstrating that the world will not remain silent in the face of targeting women’s rights activists for their courage and advocacy for human rights. Let us unite to prevent this tragedy, ensuring that Bekhshan Azizi’s voice and life become a beacon of hope for future generations to come."
