Autonomous Administration in Jazera Canton commemorates March 12 Uprising

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of Jazera Canton issued a statement on the 21st anniversary of the Qamishlo Uprising, which was read in both Kurdish and Arabic by the co-chairs of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in Jazera Canton, Hevi Ahmed and Azadin Kedo, at the March 12 Stadium.

Hundreds of people from Qamishlo, representatives of the Autonomous Administration in the Jazera Canton, as well as football teams from the Internal Security Forces, the Sterk team, and the Sirdem team, participated in reading the statement, all while raising images of the martyrs of the uprising.

The statement began by honoring the martyrs of the March 12, 2004, Uprising on its 21st anniversary and recalling the massacre committed against civilians by the Syrian (Baathist) regime. It stated:

"March 12 marks the 21st anniversary of the Qamishli Uprising. On this day, the fallen Baathist regime attempted to ignite an Arab-Kurdish sectarian conflict through its agents, aiming to implement its hostile plans to disrupt peaceful coexistence among the components. However, despite the efforts to sow division, this uprising managed to break the barrier of fear and repression, and it extended beyond Qamishli to Aleppo, Kobani, Damascus, and throughout the Jazera regions.

This uprising was the starting point and the rebirth of the July 19th Revolution, which broke out in NE Syria, through the solidarity of all components: Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Armenians, and Assyrians. Through the unity of this beautiful mosaic, the region was able to reach safety, defeating all the plans targeting the region and standing against the repression, killing, and persecution that the Baath regime practiced for decades in Syria. Thanks to the adoption of the Democratic Nation philosophy, which is based on the brotherhood of peoples, it succeeded in eliminating the most brutal terrorist organization, namely ISIS, and its supporter, the Turkish occupation.

This uprising, which has left behind 21 years of resistance, culminated in the declaration of the Democratic Autonomous Administration, also contributed to strengthening cohesion among the components. This administration represents a significant historical transformation and achievement for all the components in NE Syria, putting an end to sectarian division and division-based policies.

The March 12 Uprising broke the mentality of domination. Our people faced live bullets with their bare chests and created a new concept for confronting genocide and repression. It proved that without solving the Kurdish issue in Syria, without considering the reality of the NE regions of Syria, and without acknowledging the role of its components and valuing their struggle in building a democratic model and combating terrorism and extremism, there will be no real solution or stability in Syria. Our regions are the gateway to the solution for the stability of all of Syria.

This belief, stemming from the strength of solidarity between the components, was the reason for the agreement made on March 10 between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the current Damascus authorities after the fall and collapse of the former Baathist regime. From this agreement, we affirm that we are committed, with all our available capabilities, determination, and strength, to support and assist the aspirations of our people and achieve their goals in democracy, community building, and the creation of a unified, decentralized, democratic, pluralistic Syria."
