Armed robbery targets aid workers near Raqqa

Four Kurdish employees of the international humanitarian organization were attacked by armed men while returning from the city of , who robbed them of their salaries and personal belongings.

Four employees working for the international humanitarian organization were subjected to an armed attack on Wednesday while returning from , where they were stopped at gunpoint and robbed of their salaries and personal belongings.

The four employees, all Kurdish and originally from , work in in the countryside of .

According to the , the gunmen were driving a tinted vehicle bearing a license plate from . They lured the employees by asking for directions to , before stopping them near the junction of and taking them to a nearby tunnel.

There, the employees were threatened and assaulted. Their laptops, mobile phones, iPads, and about $5,000 — representing their combined monthly salaries — were stolen.

Although a complaint was submitted to security authorities in , the employees reported that they were unable to officially register it because working hours had ended. This raised criticism regarding weak security measures to protect international aid workers and ensure the safe delivery of their salaries.
