Arbitrary arrests of Yazidis could lead to new displacement

 A statement, delivered today in front of the Syrian Kurdish dome in Sardasht, strongly condemned the arbitrary arrests of five Shengal Resistance Unit fighters. The statement was read by religious figure Shavan Salam, who described the events as a "flagrant injustice" and an assault on the dignity and rights of the Yazidi community.

 The statement highlighted that the detainees were among the front-line defenders of their land and people against ISIS mercenaries, accusing the Iraqi government of pursuing political agendas that contradict justice and humanity. It expressed great disappointment that the heroes who courageously faced terrorism were instead of being honored, subjected to arrest.

 The statement also mentioned that the Iraqi government had never sought to target any religious or ethnic group but had always aimed to contain crises. It called for the immediate and unconditional release of the detainees and stressed the need to stop targeting the Yazidis and pushing them toward undesirable choices.

 The statement warned that the continuation of such practices could lead to dangerous repercussions and called on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene urgently.

 It confirmed that these violations could result in a new wave of displacement for the Yazidis, at a time when they are in dire need of reconstruction and the end of their suffering.
