Appointment of al-Hasakah Governor; reception scheduled for 6:00 PM

Nour al-Din Issa Ahmad, known as Abu Omar Khanika, has been appointed as Governor of al-Hasakah. He is expected to be welcomed this evening at 6:00 PM at al-Hamama Roundabout in the city.

Who is Nour al-Din Issa Ahmad?

Nour al-Din Ahmad was born in the city of Qamishlo in 1969. He holds a diploma in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Damascus University. Beginning in 1993, he worked as an engineer at the Directorate of Wired and Wireless Communications in al-Hasakah and Qamishlo until 2012, when he was dismissed from his position following the outbreak of the Syrian uprising due to his participation in anti-Baath regime protests. As a result, he was subjected to security persecution by regime intelligence agencies.

Since then, Ahmad has become involved in military activities and the defense of the region, rising through the ranks until he assumed responsibility for Public Relations within the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after their establishment in October 2015. He was also a member of the General Command of the forces.

At the time of writing, residents of al-Hasakah city are gathering at the roundabout to receive the newly appointed governor, who was appointed following an agreement reached between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government.
