Al-Assad issues decree over bankruptcy of Damascus government

The decree allowed those who didn’t join the reserve duty call and aged 40 years to pay money compensation in return.

According to the decree, the value of the cash allowance for reserve service is 4,800 US dollars, or its equivalent in Syrian currency. The decree allowed anyone who joined the reserve service, reached the age of forty and is still performing his service, to pay the aforementioned cash allowance, provided that the amount of 200 US dollars, or its equivalent in Syrian pounds.

According to observers, this decree aims to secure an economic return for the treasury of the Damascus government from the segment targeted by the decree as a result of the bankruptcy of the Damascus government and its need for foreign currencies, as the Damascus government has become a sick government looking into the pockets of the Syrians.

Citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with this decree, saying that the Damascus government prevents citizens from dealing in US dollars, while allowing itself to deal in foreign currencies.
