Ain al-Fijeh Spring faces drought after worst Winter in decades
The Ain al-Fijeh Spring in Damascus is suffering from an unprecedented drought after the driest winter in decades, threatening to exacerbate a water crisis affecting millions of residents.

The report indicated that during the winter flood season, water would normally completely submerge tunnels and wash away large parts of the Ain al-Fijeh Temple. However, this year, after the driest winter in decades, only a trickle of water remains, quietly flowing.
It warned that the situation could worsen during the summer, calling on residents to conserve water.
The Fijeh Spring and the Barada River, which feeds it, are the primary water source for more than five million people, providing 70% of the water needs of Damascus and its suburbs. However, as the city's worst water crisis in years worsens, many have begun to rely on purchasing water from private tankers filled from wells.
