As part of joint humanitarian efforts, the Department of Social Affairs and Laborers in Jazira Canton, in coordination with the Civil Affairs Section of the International Coalition, distributed relief aid to forcibly displaced people from Afrin and Shahba currently living in Hasaka.

The aid included around 1,200 food baskets, which were distributed to the displaced people living in the neighborhoods of “Youth Housing, Red Villas, and the Military District” in the city.

In this context, Zahra Samou, the co-chair of the Department of Social Affairs and Laborers in Jazira Canton, explained that this aid, sent in cooperation with the International Coalition, had previously been distributed to displaced people in Raqqa and Tabqa, and is now being distributed to Afrin IDPs in Hasaka.

Zahra Samou added that the aid does not cover all the needs of the displaced, noting that the number of Afrin IDP families in Jazira Canton is around 6,000, while the number of distributed baskets does not exceed 1,200.

She stressed the importance of continuing support for the forcibly displaced and concluded her statement by saying: “Support must be provided to the displaced, and our primary demand is to enable them to return to their homes and original areas.”

The Afrin IDPs were displaced for the second time following attacks by Turkish occupation mercenaries on the Shahba areas on December 1, 2024. They have since settled in various cities and villages across the North and East Syria region.
