The authorities at Evin Prison in Tehran are preventing women's rights activist Warisha Moradi, who faces a death sentence, from receiving necessary medical care, even though her health has seriously deteriorated and she urgently requires surgery.

According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Warisha Moradi suffers from lumbar and cervical disc herniation. Doctors recommended surgery more than five months ago, but the prison administration refuses to transfer her to a hospital for appropriate treatment.

Worisha Moradi had previously gone on a 20-day hunger strike to protest her detention conditions. However, her health condition was not taken seriously, and she was not provided with the necessary medical care, even after a temporary transfer to the prison clinic.

Human rights organizations hold the Iranian authorities fully responsible for any further deterioration in Warisha Moradi’s health and demand that she be allowed to receive immediate and adequate treatment outside the prison.

Moradi was arrested in the city of Sana in East Kurdistan on August 1, 2023. After two weeks of interrogation in the intelligence department, she was transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. During this time, she was subjected to pressure and torture to force a confession. After five months, she was moved to the women’s ward in Evin Prison in Tehran.
