Activist in Al-Karama Square protests dies due to siege on Sweida 

Activist Shahira Fayyad Al-Troudi Azzam died today, Monday, in her hometown of Arakah in the Sweida countryside, following a delay in obtaining the required cancer medication and not receiving the necessary dose, under the siege imposed on the city by the Syrian Transitional Government, according to the Women’s News Agency (NUJINHA).

The shortage of medicines and medical supplies and the disruption of hospitals have led to the deaths of several patients in Sweida, including activist Shahira Azzam, who was known as one of the free voices in Al-Karama Square, where the Syrian map and freedom banners were raised, chanting the slogan, “One, one, one... the Syrian people are one.”

The siege imposed on the city aims to economically and socially strangle it by preventing the entry of necessary fuel to pump water and operate facilities, and by obstructing the arrival of food supplies, in an attempt to pressure or punish the residents for refusing to submit to the central authority, amid suspicious international silence.
