88 IDPs leave Al-Arisha Camp in third voluntary return batch
The administration of Al-Arisha Camp, located south of Hasaka city, dispatched the third group of internally displaced persons (IDPs) returning to their areas in Deir ez-Zor, under official supervision and security protection. This marks another step in the Voluntary Return Program implemented by the Autonomous Administration since the beginning of this year.
On Tuesday, the camp administration in Al-Arisha, south of Hasaka in the Jazira Canton, organized the third trip for IDPs voluntarily returning to their original areas. The process was carried out under the supervision of the Social Affairs and Labor Body, the UNHCR, and with the protection of the Internal Security Forces, as part of implementing the decision issued by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria on January 23. The decision facilitates the return of IDPs who wish to voluntarily go back to their home areas.
This latest group included 88 individuals from 10 families, most of whom are originally from Deir ez-Zor. These families had been forced to flee their homes due to past clashes under the previous regime and repeated attacks by ISIS mercenaries on their villages.
Organized procedures and ongoing batches
In this context, Salwa Gigo, an administrator at Al-Arisha Camp, said that the voluntary return process “is part of the ongoing efforts by the Autonomous Administration to ensure a safe and dignified return for IDPs,” confirming that “departures from Al-Arisha Camp will continue, with a fourth trip planned in the coming days.”
She explained that the return process begins with IDP families registering their names with the camp administration. Then, coordination takes place to schedule the trip based on the readiness of the supervising parties.
Gradual return and logistical support
This is the third group to leave the camp since the beginning of 2025, following the departure of around 150 families, approximately 1,000 individuals, in the previous two groups. The Autonomous Administration continues its efforts to facilitate returns by providing logistical support, ensuring security during transportation, and coordinating with local councils in the returnees’ original areas.
Al-Arisha Camp: A major IDP center
Al-Arisha Camp is located about 25 kilometers south of Hasaka city and is considered one of the largest camps in North and East Syria. It houses around 14,000 IDPs distributed across more than 2,700 families, most of whom come from Deir ez-Zor and other parts of central and eastern Syria, having fled due to war and military operations in recent years.
A step toward strengthening community stability
The Autonomous Administration emphasizes that facilitating the voluntary return of IDPs is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing community stability and creating suitable conditions for residents to return to their homes after years of displacement and hardship.
