8 killed in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon as evacuation warnings issued for southern areas

Eight people were killed as a result of Israeli airstrikes that struck several locations in southern and eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency today. The Israeli army simultaneously renewed its warnings to residents of wide areas in the south to evacuate their homes immediately.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that the mukhtar of the town of Kfouar and his wife were killed after an airstrike targeted the town in the Nabatieh governorate. A family of four was also killed after their home was struck in the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya in the same region.

Israel expanded the scope of its strikes beyond southern towns and Beirut’s southern suburb to include the city of Zahle in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon. An airstrike targeted a vehicle near the city, killing two people, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Earlier, an Israeli strike targeted an apartment inside the Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp in Tripoli in northern Lebanon, killing a Hamas leader and his wife. Three people were also killed overnight in two consecutive airstrikes targeting two vehicles on the road linking Beirut to its international airport.

At the same time, an Israeli army spokesperson renewed warnings to residents in the area south of the Litani River, stretching about 30 kilometers from the border, to evacuate their homes immediately, including the cities of Tyre and Bint Jbeil. He warned that any house used for military purposes could become a target.

For his part, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem said his group would continue confronting what he described as “the Israeli-American aggression,” stressing that the party “will not surrender despite the imbalance of capabilities.”
