The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, condemned the assassination of Iraqi activist and head of the Organization for Women's Freedom in Iraq, Yanar Mohammed, stating that "her death is a devastating blow to women human rights defenders in Iraq, the region, and the world."

The spokesperson added that Yanar Mohammed dedicated herself tirelessly to protecting numerous women victims of domestic and social violence.

He offered his condolences to her family and colleagues and called on the Iraqi authorities to "conduct an immediate and transparent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice."

The political activist and head of the Organization for Women's Freedom in Iraq, Yanar Mohammed, was assassinated on March 2nd in front of her residence in Baghdad.
