370 Syrians sign petition for Leader Ocalan in 3 days

The Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Syrian Lawyers’ Initiative for the Defense of Leader Abdullah Ocalan announced in a statement on August 20 the launch of a signature-collection campaign across Syria under the slogan “I Want to Visit Abdullah Ocalan.” The campaign includes collecting signatures from politicians, academics, and prominent figures in society.

According to information provided by Farzanda Munzer, spokesperson for the Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, signatures are being collected through committees as well as by phone. The committees visit institutions, organizations, and public figures, while also contacting intellectuals, academics, politicians, and tribal leaders by phone.

Following the announcement, the committees began their work, and many people demanded to meet Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

According to Munzer, during the first three days of the campaign (August 21–24), 370 people from North and East Syria and other Syrian provinces (Latakia, Tartous, Sweida, Homs, Aleppo, and Damascus) signed the petition. The signatories included politicians, academics, doctors, intellectuals, lawyers, tribal leaders, and religious figures.

“We want to collect 1,000 signatures”

Munzer revealed that figures from the Kurdish, Arab, Syriac and Assyrian, Armenian, Yazidi, Alawite, and Druze communities participated in the campaign. He stated that their goal is to secure 1,000 signatures.

The campaign, which began on August 20, will continue until September 1, concluding with a statement to the public. However, Munzer also announced the possibility of extending it until September 21.

The signatures will be sent to the UN Secretary-General, the European Union, the United Nations Human Rights Organization, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, and the Turkish Ministry of Justice.
