35 killed, 30 injured in bus collision on Damascus–Deir ez-Zor highway

The Ministry of Health in the Syrian Interim Government announced that 35 people were killed and 30 others sustained varying injuries after two buses collided on the Damascus–Deir ez-Zor highway in eastern Homs countryside.

The death toll from the collision between two passenger buses in the area between the cities of al-Sukhnah and Palmyra in eastern Homs countryside has risen to 35, with 30 others injured, according to the Ministry of Health in the Syrian Interim Government.

The accident occurred after a bus carrying a number of Internal Security Forces personnel collided with a civilian passenger bus on the Damascus–Deir ez-Zor highway. Ambulance and emergency teams rushed to the scene and transported the victims and injured to hospitals for treatment.

Dr. Najib al-Nassan, Director of the Referral, Ambulance, and Emergency Directorate at the Ministry of Health said, “The toll from the collision between the two passenger buses on the Deir ez-Zor–Damascus highway has so far reached 35 fatalities and 30 injuries.”

The relevant authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the cause of the crash, pending the completion of the investigation.
