2 judges in Sweida dismissed, decision linked to their roles in administration

The Minister of Justice in the transitional government issued a decree removing Judge Muhannad Burjas Abu Faour, who served at the Criminal Court of First Instance and the Misdemeanor Court in Salkhad, and Judge Shadi Faiz Murshid, the second investigative judge at the Sweida Judicial Department.

Although no official explanation has been provided, the circumstances indicate that the dismissal is related to the judges’ assumption of positions within the local administration formed in Sweida after the events of last July. Judge Muhannad Abu Faour heads the Higher Legal Committee, while Judge Shadi Murshid serves as the head of the Internal Security Apparatus in Sweida. Both had ceased performing their previous judicial duties after taking on these new roles.

In his first comment on the decision, Judge Shadi Murshid described his dismissal by Minister of Justice Mazhar Al-Weis as a “badge of honor,” emphasizing that standing with and serving the people of Sweida is, in his words, “a stand for justice itself.”
