Losses estimated at more than $56 million over Turkish bombing on power stations

The Turkish occupation army bombed, via warplanes and drones, dozens of public and vital facilities in NE Syria from October 5 until dawn today, October 7. The most important of these facilities are; Stations and centers supplying the region with electricity and its conversion stations in the Al-Jazera region.

Hasaka

The Turkish occupation bombed the Western Dam station in the city of Hasaka on October 5. It is the station that supplies several neighborhoods within the city of Hasaka with electrical current, such as the neighborhoods of Al-Nasra, Al-Kalasa, Amran, Al-Sharia, Al-Nashwa Al-Sharqiya and Al-Gharbiya, in addition to the villages located on the Hasaka- Tal Tamr road, all the way to the Jabal Kazwaneh district.

The attacks also targeted the eastern dam line, which supplies the northern countryside of Hasaka with electricity.

Qamishlo

The Turkish occupation’s warplanes and drones targeted the electricity transfer station north of the city of Qamishlo, on October 5 and 6, which led to it being completely out of service. As a result, electricity was cut off from half of the city including the city’s silos, a Wheat mill, the central automatic oven, the morgue, the heart and eye hospital, the Jian Hospital, the artificial limbs hospital, private hospitals, and dozens of service and vital institutions such as gas stations and water pumping stations that feed the city.”

Amuda

On October 5, the occupation army bombed the electricity transfer station in the Amuda district, which supplies electricity to the entire district and its three village lines.

Al-Darbasiyah

The Darbasiyah power station, which is fed by the northern Qamishlo station, went out of service. Thus, the electricity supply to the district, its villages, and the line that feeds the Alouk water station, which supplies the city of Hasakawith water was cut off.

Tirbespiyê

On October 6, Turkish aircraft bombed the power station in the Tirbespiyê, the electricity was cut off to the entire the city and its 250 towns and villages.

On October 6, 2023, the Turkish occupation army bombed two of the four electrical turbines in the vital Suwaydiya facility. The second turbine burned completely, and the third and fourth were also damaged. The first was out of service as a result of the Turkish state’s bombing of the facility on October 23, 2022.

By targeting the Suwaydiya facility, the electricity supply station in the city of Derik, the Gujarat region, Tel Koçar, Tel Hamis, and Tel Brak were also out of service, thus cutting off electricity to most areas of the Al-Jazera region.

The gas facility in Suwaydiya is considered the most important vital facility in the Al-Jazera region. It is the only facility that supplies domestic gas to NE Syria, and the station responsible for supplying the 4 turbines designated for generating electrical power in the Al-Jazera region (Qamishlo and Hasaka provinces).

The Suwaydiya facility, along with other supply stations, generates 130 megawatts of electricity for the Al-Jazera region, but this amount decreased to 40 megawatts, after the Turkish air attack that targeted the station on November 23, 2022.

On October 5, the Turkish occupation also bombed the gas plant in the vital Suwaydiya facility, from which approximately 13,000 gas cylinders are extracted daily and were distributed to the residents of NE Syria.

The Turkish occupation also bombed 4 main oil and gas stations, namely the main Awdeh, Al-Zarba, Saeeda and Al-Olayan Al-Oula stations, in addition to more than ten oil points, most of which are located in the Tirbespiyê.

According to Ziad Rustom, the joint head of the Energy Office in NESyria, the initial damage to the 4 conversion stations that were bombed is estimated at more than 6 million dollars, while the damage to the vital Suwaydiya facility is estimated at more than 50 million dollars.

Repercussions

The damage to these facilities led to the cutting of electricity to nearly two million people in the Jazera region, water pumps, ovens, hospitals, and health facilities.
