YRA announces martyrdom of memory of free media Seyîd Evran

YRA made a statement about the martyrdom of Seyîd Evran.

The statement was read in front of the Muhammad Sheikho Center for Culture and Art in the city of Qamishlo, by the co-chair of the union, Dilyar Jaziri, in the presence of a crowd of journalists and representatives of institutions.

The statement reads:

“We have lost another pioneer of the free media in Kurdistan. On September 22, we lost our fellow journalist, writer, and revolutionary, Seyîd Evran, who was suffering from a heart condition and had been receiving treatment in the hospital for a long time.

Evran has represented the memory of free media over the past thirty years, through his ambition and his commitment to the struggle, he overcame all the challenges and difficulties that stood in his way in enlightening societies and educating them. He occupied, through his stance, and pen, an unparalleled position on the pages of free media. .

It can be said that our comrade spent his entire life serving the struggle and the reality of war and resistance in his homeland.

Our comrade was a pioneer warrior in the Kurdistan liberation movement and free media, and he conveyed the reality and truth of Kurdish society and the struggle for freedom throughout Kurdistan to the whole world.

Seyîd Evran, real name: Seyîd Mahmoud Evran, was born in the Hina district of Amed in 1969. He grew up in a family that grew up on the legacy of the Sheikh Sayed Uprising. He was introduced to the freedom struggle movement during his youth and studies, then joined its ranks. He acquainted during his studies at the University of Çukurova with Gharbet Ali Arsuz, one of the pioneers of free and revolutionary media.

Seyîd Evran  joined the ranks of the struggle for freedom in the land of uprising and resistance, in 1990. The painful history of the homeland placed a great responsibility on his shoulders, so he acted on this basis and began media work in Turkey and Bakur Kurdistan (Northern Kurdistan).

During the most difficult years that passed in Bakur Kurdistan, when attacks on the Kurdish people increased, while villages were being burned and journalists were being killed in the streets, and thousands of leading figures were being arrested and killed, Seyîd Evran continued to perform his work with his comrades without hesitation, and they conveyed the truth to the world together.

When the headquarters of the Ozgur Olke newspaper in Istanbul and its offices in Ankara and Amed were bombed on December 3, 1994 on the same night, our comrade Seyîd Evran was working as Director of Foreign Affairs at the newspaper’s main headquarters, and he was wounded in the attack along with 23 of his comrades.

At a time when people were afraid to even read the newspaper, he continued to do his work, and faced death several times for the sake of his love for truth and freedom, after a while he headed to the mountains of Kurdistan and conveyed the truth of the struggle for freedom with his pen.

Seyîd Evran researched the life and struggle of the Guerrilla in the Free Mountains for years and conveyed it to the Kurdish people and the world, following in the footsteps of the figures emulated by Gharbet Ali Arsuz, in this context, he wrote dozens of academic, historical and literary articles and contributed significantly to the Free Media Archive, documenting his journey in a book intitled "Journey to the Shore of Life".

 Evran studied and researched the situation of the Kurdish community in the countries of the former Soviet Union, Armenia, and Russia, as well as famous and prominent figures.

Seyîd Evran headed to Rojava with the escalation of the wave of revolution there in 2012, where he worked to convey and document the truth of the revolution on the one hand, and played a role in building and organizing the media work there on the other hand. He toured all regions of Rojava, from Dêrik to Afrin, and followed the path of the revolution and trained dozens of students, which made him a pillar of the Rojava revolution and the free media.

Seyîd Evran had been suffering from health problems since 2020. He suffered two heart attacks that forced him to undergo several surgeries, but he continued to perform his work relentlessly despite his health problems.

His illness had recently worsened, so he had been receiving treatment in the hospital for some time, but unfortunately his heart stopped on the morning of September 22nd and he left us despite all attempts to treat him.

Seyîd Evran became a torch that illuminates our path towards truth and freedom, like the rest of the martyrs of free media, such as Uncle Musa, Gharbet Ali Arsuz, Halil Dag, Nojian Arhan, Deniz Firat, Dilşan Ibeş and dozens of other martyrs.

Evran left a great legacy to follow the path of enlightenment in turn we pledge to strengthen this struggle and communicate this truth, as their journey will always guide us and develop our knowledge.”
