Wave of displacement from occupied territories towards AANES's areas

The head of the Office of Displaced Affairs in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria Sheikhmous Ahmed explained: "As a result of the attacks of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries in 2019, on Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî tens of thousands of families and people of the indigenous population were forced to flee to the safe areas run by the Autonomous Administration."

Sheikhmous added: "Since then until now, displacement from that region has continued as a result of mercenary crimes against the indigenous population in order to displace them, and settle strangers in their place."

Sheikhmous pointed out that: "So far, 550 families have registered their names in the archives of the Girê Spî displaced camp in the town of Tal al-Samen, north of Raqqa. However, United Nations does not provide any support, and it has no capacity to absorb more incoming families."

Sheikhmous confirmed that: "There are families who come to the camp on a daily basis, requesting entry, and there are those who can rent houses, and some go to their relatives in the area, and the Autonomous Administration is trying with the United Nations and humanitarian organizations on how to secure housing for these families and provide them with support, especially the implementation of expansion works for Tal al-Samen camp to contain the coming families.

Sheikhmous expressed his hope that the United Nations and humanitarian organizations would have a position on the crimes of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, and provide support for the Autonomous Administration to receive the displaced families.

He confirmed: "If the capabilities were available, the numbers of arrivals would be greater than the current numbers. These families came at different times, and there are families who communicate with their relatives in order to come to the region."

The camp's capacity is 1,387 tents, and they are unable to receive more families due to the lack of space, resources and the organizations's support, according to the co-chair of the camp, Aziza al-Hassan.

During the last 3 months, ANHA agency documented the displacement of 256 families from the occupied Girê Spî canton (the center of the canton, Suluk district and the town of Zaidi) towards the Autonomous Administration areas.

With the continuation of this reality, it seems that the areas occupied by the Turkish occupation state, especially Girê Spî, will soon be emptied of the indigenous population, which reveals the reality of the tragic situation in the region at present, in addition to the great risks of Turkey implementing demographic change operations and changing the identity of the region.
