Soldier severely wounded in Israeli airstrike near Damascus

According to the Damascus government media a Syrian soldier was seriously wounded early Wednesday, as a result of an Israeli air strike that targeted points near Damascus,

Over the past years, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, targeting sites of the Damascus forces and Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah, including weapons and ammunition depots in several areas.

An agency affiliated with the Damascus government quoted a military source as saying, "At about 01:05 a.m. on Wednesday (22:05 GMT Tuesday), the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points southwest of Damascus." The shelling resulted in "serious injury to a soldier and material losses," according to the source.

The source confirmed that "our air defenses intercepted the aggression's missiles and shot down some of them."

In turn, the Syrian Observatory reported that the Israeli strikes targeted the vicinity of Damascus International Airport and the Al-Kiswah area, southwest of the capital, where there are warehouses belonging to pro-Iranian groups, the target of which was destroyed.

The Observatory pointed out that the strikes resulted in injuries, including a member of the Damascus government forces, amid information about deaths among the pro-Iranian groups.

Israel rarely confirms carrying out strikes in Syria, but it repeats that it will continue to confront what it describes as Iran's attempts to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
