SOHR:commander-in-chief of Russian Forces killed over mercenaries attack in rural Latakia

SOHR stated that the commander of the Russian Special Forces, an officer with the rank of colonel, Oleg Viktorovich Pitchvesti, was killed on May 26, as a result of a ground attack by the mercenaries of "Tahrir al-Sham" that targeted the headquarters of the Operations Command of the Damascus government forces, on the al-Jub al-Ahmar axis in the northern countryside of Lattakia within the so-called "De-escalation" Area.

The Russian warplanes carried out air strikes for the first time during the year, in the early morning hours of Friday, May 26, targeting several areas in Idlib.

This came after the killing of a leader of the "Tahrir al-Sham" mercenaries, as a result of shelling and targeting between them and the Damascus government forces, on the Kabanah axis in the northern countryside of Latakia.

Thus, the number of people who were killed in ground attacks within the so-called "de-escalation zone" since the beginning of 2023 rises to 215, during 129 operations that varied between attacks, sniping operations, clashes, and targeting. More than 150 people were injured in the aforementioned operations, among members of Damascus forces, the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation, and citizens.
