Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the runoff in the Turkish presidential elections over his rival Kemal Kilijdaroghlo, according to the Turkish Supreme Elections Authority.

Ahmed Yener, head of the commission, announced that "Erdogan won the second round of the presidential elections after winning 52.15 of the total votes, compared to less than 48 percent for his rival Kemal Kilijdaroghlo."

On the other hand, the leader of the Turkish opposition, Kilijdaroghlo, expressed his real sadness about the future of the country after Erdogan announced his victory, and said in his first public statements after the elections: "My real sadness is the difficulties awaiting the country,"

Speaking in Ankara, Kilijdaroghlo, who got about 47.9 percent of the vote in Sunday's runoff election, said the results show people's desire to change authoritarian government.
