Arab League brings Syria back into its fold after 12 years

The delegation of the Damascus government is headed by the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, and the delegation includes Assistant Minister of Economy for International Affairs Rania Ahmed, Director of the Arab Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Riyad Abbas, Director of International Relations Anas Al-Bikai, and from the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Counselor Ihsan Rumman.

Yesterday, the preparatory meeting of senior officials of the Economic and Social Council for the work of the Arab Summit began.

The Arab Economic and Social Council is discussing "ways to enhance joint Arab action to achieve sustainable development" and other social and economic issues of concern to Arab countries.

It is expected that the arrival of the Arab leaders participating in the Arab summit will begin on Thursday, as the Arab summit will take place on Friday, with the participation of Syria, after an absence of 12 years.

Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan said during the meeting, "We are keen to support the march of joint Arab action and implement the decisions that will be issued at the summit and will reflect positively on our countries and peoples."

Syria was returned to the Arab League on the seventh of this month, as the League of Arab States decided to return Syria to its seat in the League.

Last Wednesday, the Saudi Press Agency reported that Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz had sent an invitation to Bashar al-Assad to participate in the Arab summit  on May 19.
