​​​​​​​Dirar welcomes with Arab movement towards Syrian file

On Sunday, May 7, the League of Arab States voted to restore Damascus' membership after it was expelled for more than ten years following the start of the Syrian crisis, and the subsequent killings and displacement.

The co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, Riyad Dirar, commented on these developments during an interview with ANHA’s agency, by saying: "With regard to Damascus' return to the League of Arab States and participation in its institutions, we see it as a positive factor and it comes in the context of an Arab role. We hope that this role will seek a political solution that serves "The aspirations of the Syrian people and preserving Syria's unity and independence. We welcome the Arab movement that aims to end the tragedy of the Syrians and overcome the crisis. Therefore, this return could constitute a factor of pressure on the regime for many factors so that it does not unilaterally resolve the issue and remains alone in managing state institutions."

The Arab countries must unite the Syrian ranks

Riyad Dirar addressed the Arab countries by speaking, saying: "The endeavors sought by SDC from the Arab countries, especially the countries that issued the Amman Statement, that these Arab efforts, especially the position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, can contribute to the solution, and we are turning to them, especially to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to contribute to the opposition forces' call to unify the ranks and provide creative visions that contribute to the success of the Arab role with the participation of all the forces on the ground, taking into account the geographical distribution of these forces. The final solution to the crisis can only be with the participation of all. Therefore, the approach of the Syrian government should not be a kind of types of promoting it and unilaterally seeking a political solution or ending at the government’s borders, without considering the rest of the opposition parties and the needs of the Syrian people.”

Diplomatic messages and movements from the SDC to the Arab countries

On the diplomatic moves of the Syrian Democratic Council in this regard, Dirar explained: "SDC has prepared messages that can be sent to the concerned Arab countries, especially the countries that contributed to the Amman statement. And addressing them about the positive role that they can play. Because favoring the regime is at the expense of obtaining advantages related to interests States just can't lead to completion."

He added, "The return of the regime to the its position of the Arab League will not serve the projects of a political solution and the needs of the parties or the neighboring countries from this regime. The smuggling operations, the refugees' needs for return and reconstruction issues all require a radical political solution. Therefore, we are addressing these countries on the basis that they undertake good offices." To bring together the Syrians, especially the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to which we hope that the opposition activity will move, and that it can bring together all the Syrian parties without exception and without marginalization.

There must be a radical solution in which the Syrians choose their own political system

Riyad Dirar pointed out: "The Arab role and the support that it can provide to Syria and its people is a responsible position and can contribute to advancing the dialogue between the Syrians, government and opposition. It requires proceeding with it in accordance with international efforts through the Geneva resolutions related to the solution, including Resolution 2,254. The solution to the Syrian crisis is which requires achieving a political transition through the implementation of Resolution 2,254. It is important that there be Arab support for this decision, and that it pushes it towards a radical change in which the Syrians choose their political system, and it is an integrated process that includes all Syrian lands and with the participation of everyone.

The co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council, Riyad Dirar, noted: "It appears that Arab normalization means strengthening the regime's position at any negotiating stage against the rest of the parties. However, we seek to draw attention to the fact that favoritism of the regime will not lead to achieving the interests of states in the issues that were presented in the Amman statement. Because the regime, in its obstinacy, feels that it has won and may not respond to the demands. Therefore, pressure and diplomatic messages must continue to achieve a real solution that can lead us to safety, and for everyone to participate in this solution. Diplomatic means so far are advancing and the regime can be besieged within the Arab League. to make concessions for the desired political solution.
