HRRK: Receiving Tatlises in Başûr violates Kurdish values

The Rojavayê Kurdistan Intellectuals Union issued a statement regarding the reception of the so-called Ibrahim Tatlises in Başûr Kurdistan, who sang for the Turkish occupation army during the occupation of Afrin in 2018.

The text of the statement read:

"At a time when the crimes of genocide against our nation continue everywhere by the Turkish occupier and his mercenaries, especially his documented crimes in Rojava Kurdistan, and in particular in the occupied Afrin and (Ras al-Ain and Girê Spî), killing, terrorism and displacement, not to mention the daily attacks and bloodshed. The fighters of our nation, the campaigns of fascist intimidation and cruelty in Bakur and Başûr Kurdistan, the trumpet of fascist trumpet Ibrahim Tatlises, appeared in the beloved capital of Kurdistan, Hewler, as he received the welcome of national heroes, which aroused discontent, disapproval and disappointment among the general Kurds.

Receiving Tatlises with such hospitality is exactly the same as receiving any criminal or murderer (such as Saddam Hussein) as he walks with his heavy footsteps over the remains of the Anfal and the victims of Halabja. Perhaps they do not care about the history and crimes of this mercenary against the Kurdish culture and identity, as he participated throughout the decades of his history in cultural genocide crimes against the Kurdish language and heritage, as during his artistic career he deliberately stole and plundered our feelings, our love, our epics, our songs, our melodies, our folklore and our Kurdish dreams to rob them and in a distorted way that he turned them into pure Turkish heritage.

Belonging to our Kurdish national identity requires us to stand firmly in the face of those who try to undermine our dignity with national affiliation, and disrespect our common national values. We should not compromise or underestimate these patterns of behavior, which cause severe damage to our common cultural and national discourse and our awareness of destiny. And any intellectual, or any person with a conscience, who tolerates such situations, or turns his back on such dangerous deviations, commits the greatest betrayal against the national culture, and loses the justification for his claim to cultural work, as culture is an attitude and a vision towards the destiny of man above all.”
