Israel targets southern Syria, Liwa al-Quds claims responsibility for yesterday's attack

"About 5 o'clock this morning, the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression with a number of missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the southern region,” a military source told an agency affiliated with the Damascus government.

The source added, "Our air defenses intercepted the aggression's missiles and shot down some of them, and the aggression led to some material losses."

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said: "Warplanes and other drones of the Israeli Air Force targeted several locations in southern Syria at dawn today, Sunday."

SOHR added that the bombing targeted: "The Radar Battalion in the western countryside of As-Suwayda, the 90th Brigade near the border with the occupied Golan in the Quneitra countryside, the 52nd Brigade in the eastern Daraa countryside, and other sites and points in the Yarmouk Basin area in the western Daraa countryside, and it also bombed the countryside of Daraa and Quneitra with artillery shells."

The ground and air bombardment left material losses, no information about casualties has been reported so far.

The "Liwaa al-Quds" group in Syria claimed responsibility for "targeting Israeli army sites" in the occupied Syrian Golan.

It indicated in a statement on Sunday that this "targeting came in response to the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Liwa al-Quds is a Palestinian armed group loyal to the Damascus government.

 It was established in Syria on October 6, 2013 pledging to support the Damascus government at the time.

It also pledged in subsequent statements to "liberate Jerusalem and all of Palestine after purifying Syria from terrorism."

The Israeli bombardment came after the renewed missile targeting of the occupied Syrian Golan, from within the Syrian territories, where 3 new missiles were launched after midnight towards the occupied Syrian Golan, after the same was launched before midnight.

The Israeli army issued a statement, reported by Israeli media, stating that a warning siren was triggered after firing two missiles from Syrian territory towards the occupied Syrian Golan.

The army spokesman stated, "3 rockets were launched from Syria, one of which passed into Israeli territory and landed in an open area south of the Golan Heights."

Israeli reports stated that the three rockets fell in open areas, 2 of which fell in the Golan Heights, and  in Jordanian territory.
