​​​​​​​PYD condemns forcing the Yazidis to convert to Islam

The General Council of the Democratic Union Party issued a statement regarding the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation forcing Yazidi citizens in Afrin to convert to Islam.

The statement condemned "this inhumane and immoral approach, and we consider it hostile to the reality of all religions and beliefs, including the religion of Islam, and contradicts its spirituality, and we affirm that it is a crime that contradicts international charters and law and human rights related to freedom of belief and conscience, and that these criminal acts come in its context and in the environment that created it." The Turkish occupation and the culture of mercenary and banditry factions produced it, especially against the sons and daughters of our Yazidi Kurdish people, and we consider it a systematic policy that aims to exterminate and completely end the Yazidis, which began since the ISIS attack on Şengal in June 2014 and is still continuing until this moment.

Adding: "We also address our Syrian people and their national and democratic forces to express a responsible position regarding the crimes that occur in the occupied areas, especially in Afrin, Girê Spi / Tal Abyad and Serêkaniy / Ras al-Ain, and we appeal to human rights organizations, Amnesty International and freedom of religion to expose and show the practices of the Turkish aggression and its mercenaries. In particular, what the Yazidis are subjected to in terms of oppression, injustice, looting of property and plundering of their capabilities.

The Democratic Union Party Council ended its statement by saying: "As a matter of Syrian patriotism, we affirm that ending the Turkish occupation must be a humanitarian, moral and patriotic priority, and that every attempt by any party aimed at legitimizing the Turkish occupation and legitimizing the dark and mercenary factions and covering up their criminal practices is rejected."
